Recognising a Community’s Commitment

In 2015, the Dunmore East Woods & Park Trust was honoured with the Waterford Community & Voluntary Award in the Arts, Culture & Heritage category.

The award recognised decades of voluntary work dedicated to conserving, protecting and promoting one of Dunmore East’s most treasured natural and historic amenities. It celebrated not just a single project, but the continued commitment of generations of trustees and volunteers who had cared for the Woods and Park for almost a century.

Competing alongside many outstanding community organisations from across Waterford, the Trust was recognised for its long-standing contribution to heritage conservation, environmental stewardship and community life.

Lasting Legacy

The award provided encouragement at an important point in the Trust’s history.

As plans were developing for the Biodiversity Management Plan and the NeighbourWood Scheme, the recognition reinforced the importance of continuing to invest in the future of the woodland. More than anything, it celebrated the volunteers whose commitment ensured that a gift made to the people of Dunmore East in 1924 continued to flourish almost one hundred years later.
