Pétanque Playing Area
In 2023, a dedicated pétanque (boules) playing area was created in Dunmore East Park, adding another recreational facility for residents and visitors to enjoy. The project was undertaken and funded by a group of enthusiastic local pétanque players who recognised the Park as an ideal location for the sport. Working closely with the Trust, a suitable area was prepared to provide a welcoming and accessible space for both experienced players and complete beginners. The addition of the playing area reflects the Trust’s ongoing commitment to encouraging healthy outdoor recreation while making the Park an even more inclusive community space.
A Game for Everyone
Pétanque is a simple and sociable game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities.
While regular local players helped establish the facility, the playing area is open to everyone. Whether you’re introducing friends to the game, looking for a relaxed afternoon outdoors or simply curious to give it a try, visitors are encouraged to use and enjoy the facility.
It is another way in which the Park continues to bring people together through shared outdoor activities.
Community-Led Recreation
The project demonstrates how new ideas from the local community can become lasting improvements for everyone.
By working together, the Trust and local pétanque enthusiasts created a facility that adds to the variety of activities available within the Park, complementing its existing open spaces and recreational amenities.
The pétanque area has become another small but valuable feature of the Park, encouraging people to spend time outdoors, meet friends and enjoy an active lifestyle in a relaxed setting. Like many of the Trust’s initiatives, it is a simple improvement with a lasting impact — creating opportunities for recreation while strengthening the Park’s role as a welcoming space for the whole community.
